South African Armed Forces

    I joined the South African Navy in January 1989 where I was selected to enroll in the Naval Officers Course at the Gordon’s Bay Naval College, Western Cape. I excelled in the sports arena by achieving the highest fitness score in the training division, also representing the Naval College in rugby colors and completed the International Cape Argus cycle tour during 1989 and 1990. During the Cape Town parade, handover of colors in 1989, I was appointed to be the flag bearer for the South African Naval division.
At the end of 1989 I obtained the rank of Ensign and participated in the Strike Craft Flotilla and SAS Tafelberg joint operations, sailing the West Coast of South Africa and Namibia.
I moved to Durban, KwaZulu Natal where I pursued my career in the personnel department until the end of my national service in 1991.


Sailing Yacht Shooneet 47 foot ketch
From May 1994 to November 1995 I was responsible for all in-water inspections regarding the safety of the Sailing Yacht Shooneet whilst cruising in the Gulf of Aqaba (Red Sea area).
Motor Yacht Christine 45.6m
I received onboard security training whilst sailing in the Indian/ Pacific sea areas, particular to the high risk region of the Straits of Malacca. The training included Anti-piracy drills, the familiarization of weaponry and safety and security. I obtained Certification in the MCA recognized Security Training Awareness Course (Drum Cussac) during February 2005, SOLAS and ISPS endorsed.
